I appreciate people thinking of me, (but) there are too many things down here on the verge of happening,
We're trying to get better defensively. About the only thing I was a little disappointed in today was our individual defense on the ball. We let people drive around us.
We wanted to get to the final four and then to the final two (on Saturday). We'll have to play well on Thursday.
We considered this a playoff game on the road tonight. It's analogous to the Steelers in that we have to go on the road and win three more in a row in the tournament.
I have great admiration for IIT and their coaches. They don't get the type of players that the rest of the conference gets, but they came back to take the lead against us in the second half. There is no quit in those kids, and I admire them for that.
Mike Smith played a wonderful game. He gave a gallant effort the whole night.
What we're facing is catastrophe, ... There's very few buildings that I've seen right now that do not have some type of damage.
I think we wore them down with our depth.
That was my biggest fear coming into the game, that we wouldn't be sharp offensively after the long layoff.
Let me tell you something, folks. I've been out there. It's complete devastation, ... if they have a roof left at all.
We made them play defense by waiting until the :18 mark on the shot clock unless we could take the ball all the way to the basket. That's what got us back into the game.
I admire that team (Indiana-South Bend). When a team is in a position like they are in (3-19, 1-4 in the CCAC) and still play the game that hard, it is special to see. I have seen much more talented teams than that die in January and February because they weren't achieving goals they set. So I hope we learn something from this team.
We're so close to being 4-2 in the conference. But we have the big three coming in a row, and I'm glad we have the bye (in the seven-team league) next week so we have more time to prepare.
We know we're not going to achieve real safe communities until we start to invest more money in the early childhood years of the children we're dealing with,
