As soon as the ball went out of the park, obviously the team went out and I was looking around for Bobby. You don't have to look twice because you can see him right away.

Obviously we've got to keep monitoring him and his playing time and how we are going to use him. I think this will be better for him because most of the time we are going to use him as the DH. In the National League he had to play first base and that is tougher for his body.

I feel for him. I think this man deserves to be there; obviously he's not. Hopefully, Minnie will know how to handle this and keep working for baseball.

I feel proud. It's not like I'm criticizing the people that were booing because when you go from a 15-game lead to one or two, obviously they do it. But when you win that many games and people keep criticizing and criticizing, second doubts and second guessing, it takes the fun away from the people. To me this is a release and a satisfaction.

I had to show him I had faith in him and make him believe we trust him. The thing about Jose is he didn't want to let people down. When he signed the big contract, people talked about how much money he made and how he should win every game. When you go to the mound and think, 'I have to do good,' obviously you're going to fail.

If you talked to me in April, as a matter of fact if you told me in the winter meeting or when we left camp this team would have 90 wins and be fighting in the pennant race, I will take that. Obviously our lead has shrunk real quick. Obviously we are not playing real good and the team behind us is playing extremely well.

We tried to get something done. I think he (Contreras) feels comfortable here and I don't think things are going to bother him. Jose is a tough man. He knows what he is doing, especially where he comes from.
