artistic bit box children dealing drama family goal gore gotten happy hits husband individual marriage movies notes outside personal pollyanna terms time weather wife
With my goal to make a family drama and also my artistic aspirations of doing things which are a bit edgy, I've gotten a really happy marriage in 'The Weather Man', ... Gore went outside the box and did something personal and artistic, but at the same time it hits all the right notes in terms of children that may be going through a divorce, or a husband and wife dealing with it in a way that's not Pollyanna or saccharine or B.S. I haven't made that many movies like it. I know I've never made a movie as individual as 'The Weather Man' in dealing with family issues.
country art stress
I think that movies can help guide us through those experiences [the problems that are happening in our daily lives, the stresses between countries, the economy and global warming]. I think all art tries to grapple with, redefine, come to terms with, express what's happening now when it's working. You can be entertained, but you can also be stimulated to think about things.
art lying what-if
Picasso said, 'Art is a lie that tells the truth.' What if you just want to tell the truth and not lie about it?
art age rebel
How do you rebel in a family of rebels? That's the age-old question. I guess I could have by not going into the arts, but the thing is, I couldn't do anything else.
art acting bigs
Acting is like any other art form, in that you have the option to go very big or go very small.
art character opportunity
When I started experimenting with fantasy and horror films and looking for characters who had some sort of emotional or mental difficulty, I saw opportunities to express my music - dare I say art - in a way that I could get a bit surreal - like Francis Bacon's screaming pope, or Edvard Munch with [The Scream].
art avant-garde why-not
I love art, I love music. I can listen to Stockhausen and a very experimental, avant-garde approach, and I can listen to Beethoven and have a more classical, traditional approach. Why not be able to do that with film performance?

At the time I agreed to do 'The Weather Man,' I was going through a divorce and I was trying to figure out how I could take a negative and turn it into a positive,
blaze ghost happened horrible johnny man matter negative positive simple sound trying turn
Well, it's very simple and it may sound strange, but I am Ghost Rider. It wasn't that challenging ... He's a man trying to take a negative and turn it into a positive ... Johnny Blaze has this horrible thing happened to him and he's going to take that negative and make it a positive, no matter what.
books-and-reading code great heroic high history learned respect wish
I wish I had learned more about it in high school, but they didn't put it in the history books, ... I have great respect for the Navajo Code Talkers and their heroic acts.
choose feeling help movies negative opportunity positive received script weather
When I received the script for 'The Weather Man,' I thought, 'Oh well, here's a parallel.' Sometimes I choose movies that help me do something positive with a negative emotion. And 'The Weather Man' was an opportunity to take this well of feeling that I had and just funnel it.

I don't think we would be. I think it'd be scientists and farmers and such.

I would rather have had one breath of her hair, one kiss from her mouth, one touch of her hand, than eternity without it.
