ended five innings pitch six
We wanted him to try to go out and pitch five innings and 80 pitches, and he ended up (going) six innings and 70 pitches.
bit ended evident help hit instead putting runners runs score struggled struggling takes team three walks
(Capuano) just struggled all day. He could never get it going. We had too many walks all day. We ended up with nine. When a team has been struggling to score runs a little bit like they have, you can't help them out by putting runners on. Then it only takes one hit instead of three to score a run. That was evident in the first inning.
against best ended happy impossible looked matching roger throughout
(Davis) was happy about it. Matching up against Roger Clemens it looked like an impossible task. Really Doug labored throughout the whole game. He didn't have his best stuff. He ended up getting through it.
ended work
When they got the big inning in the third, it ended up costing us the game. That's something we'll work on all year.
early ended hit home last runs usual year
He didn't hit a lot of home runs early last year (four through May), either, and he still ended up with his usual 25 to 30 (25).
bats exception games seems swinging team
We've been swinging the bats OK, with the exception of (Wednesday night), ... I think every team has those games where it seems like you can't get anything done.
ball count finds haunt pitch score
We just let too many opportunities get early. We got his pitch count way up and had opportunities to score and couldn't put the ball in play. That always finds a way to come back and haunt you.
ball catching count fewer pitch position runners scoring three
We just let too many opportunities get by early. We got his pitch count up and three times we had runners in scoring position and fewer than two out. We just couldn't put the ball in play. That has a way of catching up with you.
ball good happens haunt preach
We just let too many opportunities get by early. That always comes back to haunt you. We preach to put the ball in play. Nothing good happens with a strikeout.
ahead ball chance figured gamble good hit odds throwing trying
We figured that would be a good chance to gamble and take a shot. Davies was throwing the ball very well at that point. The odds of trying to get a two-out hit probably weren't in our favor. We thought we'd go ahead and gamble, and it worked.
cabin room
The room is my friend, not my enemy. I don't get cabin fever.
ball
It was a ... bullet, and at times the ball skips in this outfield. To Conine's credit, he's charging that ball to make a play at the plate.
good
Is that a problem? Yeah. Is that a good problem? Yeah.
bad behind both catching chad given great hit jobs pleased
I've been real pleased with our catching this season. Damian has given us a little more pop, and Chad hit better after a bad start. Both do great jobs behind the plate.
