People got a little confused. It was like I was myself but every single fact about me was tweaked. It was so not typical of who I am or how I act in a romantic relationship.
When girls feel bad about their looks, 60 percent avoid normal daily activities like raising their hand in class or even going to the doctor. That means that girls do not show up for life when they don't feel good enough or pretty enough. A role model can help girls see beauty as a source of confidence, not anxiety.
I think it's the fun and the challenge as an actress to get a meaty part like this and sort of play against type. Sally is pretty far from who I am, so I definitely enjoyed it.
I guess at a certain point you think, well, singing is singing and acting is acting.
I've really been sort of focused on acting and I feel really lucky because great projects sort of keep coming my way. I guess the criteria that I look for, it gets increasingly difficult because when you have the privilege of working with someone like Diane [Keaton], it's kind of like, 'Well, where do you go from there.'
It depends on the scripts and the character and just everybody involved, the other actors and directors. It's just a gut feeling when you find something, you're like, 'Yes, I want to sink my teeth into that.'
If that day comes when I'm done with the acting and singing, I'll just pack it in and go home.
I wanted to be an actor and I wanted to be a performer. Like Hugh [Grant] said earlier, we might all have this weird gene. Hopefully I will continue to have the talent to allow that gene to play itself out for as long as it can.
Having this other career in music made me work harder as an actress. It's made me more professional.
I just don't want to be known as the actress who can sing. I want to be known as the singer who can act, too. It's great cross-promotion.
I'm sure Hugh's probably back in London now going like: 'I worked with this girl, Mindy...' like I made no impression on him whatsoever!
I like older boys, but they think oh she's so underage, I love to have someone in mind when I am singing
I'm learning to accept everything that I am. I've accepted that I'm not going to be a stick-thin-model kind of girl. When I was 14, I was tall and spindly. By the time I turned 18, I had become a woman, and my body's not going to go back to what it looked like when I was 14.
I'm not comfortable doing that. You shouldn't send that message out, that tight clothes are what get you the attention. If it works for them, fine. But, it's not for me.
