Usually the coach of the year is the guy that overcame something. We didn't overcome anything. We just won a big game at the end and we hadn't been doing that. I felt like we had a great spring. You are not sure how young people will respond after the excitement we had on January 4. People have talked to them about how great they are for a couple of months now and that is a dangerous thing for young student-athletes and I am really proud of the attitude this bunch has taken to continue to work. As you could see tonight they are very physical and it has been that way all spring.

I feel what USC has done is phenomenal, and until someone beats them, they're still the national champions. I think it should be them No. 1 and all the rest of us No. 2 until somebody else proves otherwise.

This team continues to impress us as a staff. Our guys were excited about this game. But we are still a work in progress and we have the ability to play much better than we have yet. If you don't play your best game and you are still able to score 52 points, you know you have a special team out there. This is such a great win for the Longhorns.

When you're 1-10 it's a hurtful period. It's not who makes fun of you because you feel worse about yourself. It's because someone gave you a chance to run their program, and you aren't running it very well. That's what you're proud of for Texas, that they've asked you to do something and you've gotten it to this point.
