Lou Piniella

Lou Piniella
Louis Victor Piniellais a former professional baseball player and manager. An outfielder in the major leagues, he played five seasons with the Kansas City Royals and eleven seasons with the New York Yankees, then led five teams as manager. Piniella was nicknamed "Sweet Lou", both for his swing as a major league hitter and, facetiously, to describe his demeanor as a player and manager. He finished his managerial career ranked 14th all-time on the list of managerial wins...
muscles runs yankees
Well, the Yankees flexed their muscles today. Put 10 runs up in the first two innings, and that was that. Only one game; still have two to go.
forget home run
That's what I like to look at. Forget the home run balls. They're going to come because you're strong.
darn half home runs season twenty
Twenty home runs in a half season is pretty darn good.
darn era half home runs season twenty
I'm not going there. Twenty home runs in a half a season in any era is pretty darn good.
base beat bit came caught fair fell field game grass guy happened hard home matter mound runs score truth
The guy (pitcher Jarrod Washburn ) fell ... it's a base hit. They scored it right the first time. We just happened to score two runs and (the Angels) probably complained after the game in their home park, but what's fair is fair. And the truth of the matter is the guy came off the mound hard to field a bunt, his spikes got caught a little bit on the grass and he slid, and C.C. had the play beat once that happened.
bright coming continued core devil fans forward future group next players promising rays talent though
Even though I will not be a part of it next year, Rays fans should look forward to the team's continued success. With this core group of young players and other promising talent coming up through the minors, the future is bright for the Devil Rays.
close couple dad freer needed passed spent time valuable
You always have regrets, but I needed to get close to home. My dad passed away this spring; I spent some valuable time with him. I had a couple of other things that were pressing ... Now, I'm a little freer again.
manage
I would like to manage again, but it would have to be the right situation.
definitive hoping wish
I wish I had a definitive answer. I'm hoping it continues.
fun takes
I was tired; it takes a lot of concentration, ... But overall, I had some fun with it.
basically happens hoping regrets rest somebody
I was hoping that we could do basically what we did over in Seattle. It didn't happen, but it's on the right path. Somebody else can take over and take it the rest of the way. I've got no regrets about what happens now.
bother humble instead kick next putting sudden win
It doesn't bother me, but I get a kick out of it, because now, you're putting expectations on yourself for no reason, ... Just go out there and play, and play hard, have fun, win a ballgame, be humble about it and go out and try to do it the next day again, instead of having that bravado. All of a sudden you've got to back up bravado. You don't have to back up humility.
good guys trying
I think he's just trying to make our guys confident. It's a good ploy.
curtail fan field happening hate playing type
I think it will probably curtail that type of thing from happening at other ballparks. It'll keep the playing field safer, which is a concern. You hate to see a fan penalized, but what are you going to do?
