Lloyd Henry Carr, Jr.is a former American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at the University of Michigan from 1995 through the 2007 season. Under Carr, the Michigan Wolverines compiled a record of 122–40 and won or shared five Big Ten Conference titles. Carr's 1997 team was declared the national champion by the Associated Press. There's no question it's going to be a different type of team. You don't lose two outstanding players like Navarre and Perry and immediately replace that kind of production, ... But you play to your strengths. If we can stay healthy, our defense is going to be better and I think our kicking game should be very solid. We'll just have to see how we evolve offensively.

I've interviewed every player on our team, and that's always part of the conversation. There's a lot of things that certainly should be motivating. I don't think there's anybody in this program that wants to go through that kind of season again. I think they'll do everything that they're asked to do to make sure that it doesn't happen again.

Our players embraced him and Chad gets most of the credit for that because of the way he handled the pressure of the job and the praise he got for doing it. But (quarterbacks coach) Scot Loeffler did a great job of helping him get better every day and (offensive coordinator) Terry Malone did a great job of giving him things he could handle, not overloading him.

I don't worry about the polls, but I think any time you're ranked high it's a compliment to your players and your program and it's challenging and we look forward to trying to do better. We have our own goals and they can't be any higher than anybody else's goals for us.

We just made too many mistakes in the red zone. You can't get the football down there and give it away like we did and expect to win a game like this.

We lost a football game, but I think we found a defense. I liked the way we played, from a standpoint of effort and aggressiveness. I thought we were very physical. I thought we took the fight to Notre Dame. They're a very talented offensive football team. (But) there's nothing good about losing. Nothing.
