looking major players raise seven stage team
We weren't looking to do anything significant. Why do something significant? I think we've got five, six, seven players on our team that can play better. ... I still think as a team and individually, we can raise our game. So, again, why look to make a major overhaul at this stage of the game?
bring cap coach coming dave lewis players seemed similar time win
Coming into the new cap world, it seemed like it was the right time to change, to bring in a coach who had new ideas, ... wasn't similar to Dave Lewis (in style). Players had to win this new coach over.
earned happy jersey key next opportunity player red season signed stay three throughout wings
Mikael has been a key player throughout this season and earned the opportunity to stay in Detroit. I'm happy to have him signed and to be able to keep in him a Red Wings jersey for the next three seasons.
given groin history longer players recent tend
Given our recent history with groin injuries, they tend to take a little longer than you think. We've had players come back, feel OK, and then re-injure themselves.
ability compete impact negative performance player reach terms
From a club's perspective, if a player doesn't reach your projections in terms of performance, it really will have a negative impact on your ability to compete in the future,
close eventual game impact lots means open player players six sooner stage top wait
Obviously, the sooner the better. But if it means we have to wait to get Pavel in our lineup I'll wait. At this stage of the game I don't think it's going to have any impact as to our eventual roster. We're not going to be able to go out and find a player that's close to Pavel. If you look at the open market, there's lots of players out there that we think could be third- or fourth-line players in the NHL. But he's (Datsyuk) a top six forward.
chance closer columbus compete conference five goals key lost nashville players potential reach successful teams title
We've probably lost about five key players from the teams we were successful with, but we still have a lot of our nucleus together. I think teams like Nashville and Columbus are going to be closer to us with the new CBA. But I still think we have the potential to compete for the conference title and if you're doing that, you've got a chance to reach the goals everyone around here has for this franchise.
add agency ages build core free goes players position
We like our nucleus, the core of young players we have. We'd like to build something here. We want to be in position to add in the future, when the ages of unrestricted free agency goes down.
player quality trade
It's like getting a quality player at the trade deadline.
ability both finished good players
They're both good young players with a lot of ability, but they're not finished products,
call gives good grand guy injury maybe players surprise team
He's got good skill, and I think he gives our team depth, and maybe he'll surprise us. In the new world, you're going to have to have some players that are good bargains. At the worst, he'll be a good player for us in Grand Rapids and if we get into injury situations, he'll probably be a good guy to call up with his NHL experience.
basically bought coming free hank happy ourselves players prime year
Pavel and Hank are two young players who are very, very important to our franchise. In Hank's case, he's really coming into the prime of his career. I'm happy he made a long-term commitment; basically we bought ourselves one year of unrestricted free agency.
chance close good level older players
If some of our older players can play close to the level they were at two years ago, we've got a chance to have a good team,
good happy hoping obviously player players skilled talented year
We're obviously very happy that we got Pavel back. He's a talented young player that had a very good year for us two years ago, and we're hoping for more of the same. With the new rules, I think skilled players like Pavel are really going to be helped.
