backup catcher
You don't want to be a deadbeat back there. But any backup catcher is a deadbeat.
nice pitches seen surprised throw
I've seen him throw 140-150 pitches in a game. It kind of surprised me, but it's nice to give him a break.
baseball favorite grew growing minutes number wore
That was my number growing up, No. 5, in baseball and football. He was my favorite player; I wore it because of him. He grew up about 30 minutes from where I grew up.
expecting pitching typical
I was expecting lights-out. Typical Randy, going out there and pitching his game.
bad good happen looking
I thought he was looking at me. It's too bad it happened. We've become pretty good friends. I don't want anything to happen to Jorge.
brings catch challenge expects intense takes throws
He's a challenge to catch. It takes a lot to catch him, because he brings a lot to the table. He throws hard, he's intense and he expects a lot out of his catcher.
business gone looks randy satisfied seems serious singing walks
To me he seems satisfied with how it has gone this spring. Randy is not the kind of person who walks around singing because this is a serious business for him. But he looks comfortable.
nowhere tried
It was a pretty hard-hit ball. He had nowhere to go, he tried to backhand it.
bat best good issue joe needs ready realize talked whenever
It's not going to be an issue whatsoever. Jorge and I have talked about it, and we're going to do what's best for the team. We want to get to the playoffs, and that's where Jorge makes his living. He's such a good hitter; you've got to have his bat in there. I realize that I just have to be ready whenever Joe needs me.
arm bit dropping good looked
It looked like his arm was dropping a little bit and he got a little tired. So it was good to get him out of there.
battle heat might sit slider tomorrow watch
We'll sit down and watch tomorrow to see if he was tipping. We really don't know. You get in the heat of battle and things happen. He might have been squeezing his glove on a slider or squeezing it on a fastball. We don't know.
ball catch last looking missed playing second somebody
We were just playing catch and I thought he was looking at me. ... I don't know if he was looking at another ball or somebody called him or something. I thought he had it, but at the last second he went up and missed it.
good hacks
They put some pretty good hacks up there.
bottom
Jorge is going to catch. That's the bottom line.
