forecast forecasts matters mean nature press rain reading
I've been reading press clippings about what I can do and what I couldn't do for a long time. That's just the nature of the business. ... Forecasts are forecasts. It's forecast to rain today, probably, but that doesn't mean it's going to. What matters is what we think about ourselves.
ball giving handling hit means move seldom taking zone
I think he's handling it great. I don't think he is going out of his zone a lot. He's taking what they give him. You see him always hit the ball to the right side, if that's what they're giving him. Very seldom do you see him move his swing. That means to me he is handling it great.
continues credit days difficult gary goes happy josh mean strides
I think Josh has made a lot of strides in the 10 days, 12 days we've been here. If he continues to progress, it's going to be a very, very difficult decision. I'm really happy with that. But that doesn't mean he doesn't keep working. I'm happy with the progress. A lot of that credit goes to Gary Tuck.
fairly good manager means talked together wants
It was fairly brief. He didn't want to do too much without (General Manager Larry) Beinfest there. We talked about getting together again. The idea that he wants to talk to me is a good sign. It means I still have a chance.
eighth gets ground instead mean next pierre puts run tough tried walked walks
The walks in the eighth killed us. Pierre gets on, but his run doesn't mean anything. We walked the next two guys. That puts us in a tough situation. J.J. gets the ground ball. I thought we tried to do too much instead of just getting the one out. We tried to get two outs -- get one out.
confidence mean playing
It's important for them to get confidence playing at this level. And when I say playing at this level, I mean by winning.
means
It's amazing. But that just means that they are young. It doesn't mean that they can't play.
both desires financial george great means obviously owners priority work
They're both great owners to work for because their first priority is winning. Obviously George has more financial means than Jeffrey, but their desires are the same.
belong expect good guys job leagues mean next pitch step sure understand
A big part of my job is making sure these guys understand they belong in the big leagues and they can do it. That's going to be my message, that just because you're young doesn't mean you can't play. I expect you to do it just like you did in Double-A and Triple-A. It's the next step up, but if you make your pitch it's a good pitch.
besides bullpen center directors farm grow guys left maybe mean means press public reason second top
The bullpen guys are going to have to grow up just like the starters, just like our shortstop, second baseman, first baseman, right, center and left fielders probably. It's OK. Just because a guy is young doesn't mean he can't play. It just means that no one in the public besides maybe farm directors and the press know who they are. They can still play. There's a reason that they are top prospects.
expect mean
Just because you're young doesn't mean you can't play. I expect you to do it just like you did in Double-A and Triple-A. ... It'll be exciting. Don't underestimate these kids.
game means playing
What means something is that we're playing the game right.
brutally meant
That meant as much to me as anything, ... Joe's brutally honest.
father meant ready son telling
He said, 'Joe, you're ready to manage. Go,' ... That meant a lot to me, because it was like a father telling his son he was ready for the world.
