I was slowly catching Matt before that last caution. I thought long and hard about what I would do if I was protecting the lead. I knew I wanted to be on the outside. I faked kind of to the bottom and he kind of bought it.

The other thing was that when I was at the University of Miami, we ran a pro-style offense and defense. I started each year by going to a pro training camp, I visited with various pro coaches, and I did this for five years.

It's a good point in my career. It's more of a highlight to make it twice. It justifies my tournament fishing and kind of proves it.

I personally am not a huge fan of this new testing plan. I understand the reasons behind it, but I hate that if a team is in need, they can't go out and try to better themselves. If you're off, I don't really see a lot of chances where a team can pinpoint its problems and work through them.

Before long, there will be a couple car breakaway and some gaps from there. That's when the pressure really sets in and you've got to decide if you're protecting the points lead or if you need to play some offense and be aggressive and lead the most laps and really take some risks.

I'm proud of this race team. These guys continue to work their butts off through adversity, making the best of a bad situation. We almost won another race today. We're doing everything we need to do. We won the Daytona 500 and maybe we'll win the championship.

We lost last year by eight points, and we had some troubles at the start of the Chase, ... This year, hopefully, we'll make the right decisions and not have any weird things happen to us, and I won't make any mistakes on the racetrack and stay clean throughout.

There was a little bit (of contact) with Tony trying to get by me. One time in the middle of (turns) 3 and 4, I think he hit me four or five times and I couldn't get any gas because my tires were off the ground. That's when he finally got by me on the inside.

Quite an experience (this past week of media frenzy). It was the highlight of my career and hopefully I can experience it again some day.

The thing I don't like, ... is the five Roush cars can go on a tear and nobody says anything, then we go out and win a race and so we've got to be cheating. It does get frustrating, but I choose to take it as a compliment.
