Sure, he was a large contributor toward many worthwhile projects. But we will always remember him for his support of our community through his investment of human capital. His encouragement wasn't just lip service either. Gene led by example. And perhaps most memorable of all to me, Gene did what he did, not for glory and personal recognition. He did it because as he put it himself, 'Somebody needed to... and it's the right thing to do.'
