I know the first year Smitty caught all of these balls and Moose wasn't catching a thing. Then all of sudden, midway through the season, it shifted and Moose caught on fire. That's just part of it.
Certainly, I would like to get him the ball more, but if you force the issue then it doesn't do any good,
Peyton would tell you that, too. Eli is a big, good-looking kid who can throw the ball well. The thing that separates Peyton is his work ethic and how he prepares himself. Eli went to Ole Miss and did pretty darn well without the best cast around him. I think he'll do just fine. He's just a very good athlete who can throw the ball extremely well.
When you can hand the ball off as a quarterback, you have so much of a better chance to win.
I tried to get the ball out of my hands quick today.
We run the ball pretty effectively. When we've had opportunities to throw it, we're getting one-on-one opportunities and we have a guy that we think is pretty special with the ball in his hands.
When you spot a team like that 10 points out of the chute, it's going to be a tough hole to dig out of. A couple bad plays early on and they really got after us. We had to throw the ball a lot in the second half and they teed off on us. Offensively, it wasn't one of our best performances. We need to try to learn from that film and learn from what they have done since.
In Chicago last week, it was the same thing. It's the whole atmosphere about it, you know there's nobody else but the coaches and the players and that's it, and you've just got to focus in and get it done.
I know these areas you see on TV well, it hits you right in the heart,
The biggest thing was just (get) our defense to stop them,
I'm in a position to be able to give back. ... You can put a smile on kids' faces just by being here.
I'm not going to lie, there's pain there. But there's going to be pain there for the rest of the season. That's just the way it is. It's gotten better. I anticipate it getting better the rest of the season.
I'm a fan of it. I enjoy watching, and you don't get an opportunity that often. Usually you're playing on Sunday.
I'm telling you, this guy we have playing for us this week is going to do a great job. He knows what to do. He knows how to do it. Hopefully, the players around him, including myself, can help him have a good game.
