great ... I never wanted to go longer than five years off the stage. Not necessarily musicals, but just doing a play or something. I don't know if my agent was particularly thrilled about the 12-month contract I've signed, but still. It's thrilling. It's such a dream to go to Broadway and do the first Australian musical ever to go there, and playing a character who I have huge, huge admiration for. So, I'm really looking forward to it. I'm probably more excited about that than I've been in a while.
I always think the great parts outlive the actors that play them and that's a stage tradition, that goes back hundreds of years and it should be that way.
I'm doing a new musical on Broadway, which opens in October called 'The Boy from Oz,' where I play Peter Allen. For those of you who don't know, he became first famous in America for marrying Liza Minelli.

It's absolutely physically demanding to play the role of Wolverine. There's a lot of action, and I try to do as much of it as I can because it's better for the audience.
The word philosophy sounds high-minded, but it simply means the love of wisdom. If you love something, you don't just read about it; you hug it, you mess with it, you play with it, you argue with it.
Probably look at it for an hour then paint it or throw it in the pool.
I think I was 5 and singing 'Camelot' on stage. It was always a good way to meet girls. I did musicals, plays. My school encouraged it. We'd do our own productions. It wasn't until I was about 23 that I thought, 'I could give this a shot. I might as well do it.'
It is fair to say I am obsessed with that series. I am like a junkie looking for series two.
Peter's whole essence was very joyous. He was fearless, outrageous, and childlike, and he definitely lived life to the full.

My agent said to me five years ago, 'Hugh, I can see one day you...if I had to plan a goal for you, it's for you to have the kind of career that Sinatra had.'
basically, I'll make an ass of myself anywhere.
I'm a little bit humbled and I'm thrilled. Australia will always be our home.
