As I understand what the bill says is that the federal government has the right to regulate controlled substances. And to the extent that controlled substances relieve pain, that's fine. But to the extent that controlled substances take a person's life, it's not fine and I would sign that bill.
Decisions made are made understanding we have an obligation to protect the civil liberties of the American people.
I will never understand and never agree that five private law firms should collect more than $3.3 billion for working less than two years on a case that was settled before it went to trial. The fee seems totally out of proportion for the work performed.
Out of this despair is going to come a vibrant coast, ... I understand if you're saying to yourself, 'Well, it's hard for me to realize what George W. is saying because I've seen the rubble and I know what has happened to my neighbors.' But I'd like to come back down here in about two years and walk your streets and see how vital this part of the world is going to be.
The United States will continue its efforts to improve our understanding of climate change - to seek hard data, accurate models, and new ways to improve the science - and determine how best to meet these tremendous challenges.
And, now, there is a way forward, ... And, part of the way forward is for the North Koreans to understand we are serious about this, and we expect there to be a verifiable process.
I believe a leader must be consistent and clear and not change positions when times get tough. And the times have been hard. These are hard times. But I understand what mixed messages do. You can embolden an enemy by sending mixed messages,

We look forward to working with President Megawati and her team to address Indonesia's challenges of economic reform, peaceful resolution of separatist challenges, and maintaining territorial integrity.
