Beamer was a cornerback for Virginia Tech from 1966 to 1968. His coaching experience began in 1972, and from 1981 to 1986 Beamer served as the head football coach at Murray State University. We take pride in our program in doing things right . . . just too many things that weren't quite right, ... I hate to see anyone's story here not be successful. You want it to turn out right, you work for it to come out right. Just too many situations. I thought this was what's best for our football team.

I think sometimes you're a better program than people realize you are. And I think that might be Louisville's case. I mean in the last three years they have won 29 games. They're for real. I think this team can play with anyone.

I've seen those knee braces save a bunch of knees. There's no question in my mind that Reggie Butler would be operated on right now if he hadn't had that knee brace on. It was a tough blow right to the knee, but the brace didn't allow the knee to bend to where something would be completely torn.
