country years car
My first car was kind of sad. My first car was when my parents had completely worn out their Toyota Corolla that they had for 16 years or something. They gave me, for my 19th birthday, this really ancient Toyota. So that was my first car. And I loved it. I thought it was amazing, and I drove it cross-country. It was not aesthetically appealing in any way. It was it fast. It did not handle well, but it lasted forever. I drove cross-country and back, and then I gave it to my sister, and she drove it for another 10 years.
believe writing care
I've always been drawn to the best writing that I can find. I don't care if it's in movies or theater or whatever - if you want to be in front of an audience, you have to do writing you believe in.
jobs mean careers
The thing that really breeds career longevity in this profession is doing good work. You can make $20 million a movie, but does that mean you'll still have a job when you're 60? It's a profession that eats people up and wants constant turnaround, so you have to dedicate yourself to learning and making the most of whatever gift you may have.
new-york car subway
In New York, you've got Donald Trump, Woody Allen, a crack addict and a regular Joe, and they're all on the same subway car.
book celebrity great modern relationship relationships root
There's something at the root of our love-hate relationship with celebrity that I think has the makings, if you could do it in a really substantive way, of a great modern American novel. And it's something I know a lot about, and so I feel like that's the book that I should write.
group split
I was the first one in my group to get married. Now I've split up, they're all married. They're like 'Come with us to our couple's retreat'. No thanks.
example great
My grandfather was a great example of his generation,
forward grand great hard john large medium people pushing stepping stone stories telling
There are a great many people that see independent film as a stepping stone to some kind of grand idea of some very large accomplishment, ... And there are some that see independent film as accomplishment enough, of pushing forward thought and telling stories that are hard to get told, pushing the medium forward, and John ... has been that for me and a lot of other people, I know.
amazing elements kids life matter
If my kids are doing well, then my life is going pretty well. And if my kids aren't doing well, it doesn't matter how the other elements of my life are. It's kind of amazing to have a context like that. This is really wonderful.
life
You know, I auditioned for 'Titanic.' Sometimes I muse on what would have happened. That would have been such a different life.
When an analogy is really singing, it's what you want it to be.
The theater, for me, has always been a place where I'm free to be more creative, a place to sharpen my tools.
chameleon guys kinds movies pushing themselves time ways
If you're not a real chameleon of an actor and if you're not one of those guys who can really shape-change themselves all the time, one of the ways to keep pushing yourself and keep changing is to be in different kinds of movies.
funny people time
We live in a funny time. If you don't go corporate, you can't compete. You're relegated as irrelevant. People used to admire that.
