bless bruce football god heck jim jobs kelly player position team whether
Every position is competitive. Whether you have Jim Kelly or Bruce Smith, if there is a better player that can take those jobs from those guys, then God bless us, we've got a heck of a football team in the making.
love position
There are only 32 of these, and it is a position that I love being in. Yes, I would like to be here.
aware beginning behind certainly coach college defensive football head move open personnel position study talk time training worked
Not enough to talk about where it's going to be at the beginning of training camp. I'm certainly aware of him. I didn't study him out of college because at that time I wasn't a head coach and only worked on the defensive side. So I am behind in that regard. But he will be part of the personnel study as we move forward. Every position we have will be competitive and open to competition.
hard position stand steve
It's hard for me to stand up here in this position because Steve is a friend.
great itself obviously position time understand value
We'd like to have him in, but we also understand his position in this thing. It'll straighten itself out over time one way or the other. We obviously value his abilities a great deal.
position understand
We'd like to have him in, but we also understand his position in this thing.
fast follows positions respect run scheme teaching teams time tremendous trust
He's been in positions with teams that run a scheme that I like. I've always had a lot of respect for it. It's specific. It follows a teaching progression, I like that. You play fast in it, I like all those things. I trust Perry. It's time for him. I think he'll do a tremendous job.
available chart contribute depth limited numbers players special teams
It was a numbers thing. Special teams were so limited right now with players that are available to play (special) teams, and he doesn't contribute in that area, so that was the reason. It wasn't really for anything he hadn't done. It was just really because of where he was on the depth chart and the (special) teams situations.
bit bring changing higher hopefully level push somebody start surface thinking three
We wanted a three-man push there, thinking that the three of them would bring the level of play up of all of them a little bit higher and then one of them will surface (as the starter). At some point, we'll have to start changing the reps, because somebody hopefully will take the job. It'll be interesting.
game grows player thrives
(Bettis) is the kind of player that the game needs, the game thrives on, and the game grows around.
difference felt hindrance lost meeting problem talking team
I've never felt like it was a hindrance as a coach, I've never felt like it was a problem with a player. Never felt like it made any difference in a meeting. I've never felt like I lost a team in a meeting talking to them.
feeling strong whatever worked
I've always had a strong feeling that they just want to win. For whatever reason, it hasn't worked out for them.
choices definitely good gotta maybe players terms
You gotta get lucky, in some terms. You gotta get on some players who maybe don't think they're that good and they play a lot better than they are. You gotta get on it in terms of injury, and then you have to make the right choices personnel-wise. The ones you think are going to be players, they all gotta be players and they gotta play up to it, so it's possible, definitely possible.
We have to look out for each other. We're all we got.
