The seniors on our team have had a little rivalry with Morgan from fifth grade. We always joke about playing Morgan in the state championship game. I guess this is as close as we're gonna get, but it'll be fun.
I always believe that every song tells a story, so the last thing I want to do is edit out like the meat of the story. I would pick songs based off a), whether I felt like I could do anything with them, and b) whether I felt like I could keep the story intact. And then you sit in with one of the piano players and one of the vocal coaches and kind of work out your arrangements that way.
I never want to play a show where it feels overly programmed, processed, and all that. For anybody that comes to one of our shows, the goal for me is to make sure that's their show. That nobody else is going to see that show ever again. You know what I mean? I try to make it different every day.
I got to play with ZZ Top and introduce Bryan Adams and George Michael. And to have it all topped off by me winning 'American Idol?!' It's pretty absurd.
We played well. We got off the ball well and had a good first half.

Texas is a great place to do a track. You've got good weather year-round. It's a good location. Texas has a lot of energy. People are progressive here.
