My job as an athletic trainer is to prevent injuries as much as possible. I also help with strengthening and conditioning, guidance in nutrition and sleeping, and I also make sure the playing area is safe.

I know them well enough, usually by a couple of months, that I can tell if they are hurting or if something is wrong with them. Most of the time they are honest, sometimes they're not. They are athletes and they don't want to sit out. Our job is not to sit them out, but if it is in their best interest to get them back quicker, sometimes we have to do that.

College students don't get a lot of great nutrition, mostly because they are in a hurry, so we give them counsel on healthy things to eat.
