Dr. King would be No. 1 thrilled with the racial advances we've made, but he would be disappointed in the state of black America with all this black-on-black crime, teenage pregnancies, kids not getting an education.
When I go around and I talk to young black kids, I really stress education. We've got this thing going on in black culture, where if you do well in school, you're considered acting white. If you use proper English, you're considered acting white. I say, 'We've got to get more kids acting white, then.' We want kids to speak proper English. We want them to get their education.
When I speak to kids I tell them, 'Hey, you think your parents are a pain in the ass now, but they're going to get smarter as you get older.'
I just wish all these young black kids would realize how significant it is to stop acting a fool out there, killing each other, not getting their education. You know, people have died to put us in a situation to be successful.
I think the biggest problem is parents are so concerned with being friends with their kids. You're not their friend. You're their parent.
Kids are great. That's one of the best things about our business, all the kids you get to meet. It's a shame they have to grow up to be regular people and come to the games and call you names.
I'm not a role model, ... Just because I dunk a basketball doesn't mean I should raise your kids.
It's something we thought about coming into the Olympics, but it's not something we thought would happen. I just feel bad for all the families involved.
I'm glad he's getting his due. I was fortunate enough to play against Dominique in college and the NBA, and I'm glad he's getting his recognition.
If I weren't earning $3 million a year to dunk a basketball, most people on the street would run in the other direction if they saw me coming.
serious and sensitive issues such as race and education.
They can't beat Detroit, first of all. But they aren't athletic enough, they don't guard, they have trouble with athletic people, the guards especially.
We're usually always trying something to make it handle a little bit better,
Another ho-hum par. I'm just letting them get over confident right now. I'll make my move on the back side.
