character writing thinking
I think the main thing to remember when writing a novel is to stay true to the characters.
writing serious feels
And write what you love - dont feel pressured to write serious prose if what you like is to be funny.
book writing want
You're a reader as well as a writer, so write what you'd want to read.
real character writing
Creating characters is like throwing together ingredients for a recipe. I take characteristics I like and dislike in real people I know, or know of, and use them to embellish and define characters.
writing feet royal
Someday," Magnus said, looking at the crumpled royal person at his feet, "I must write my memoirs.
eye writing night
He found himself wanting to write poetry about how her blue eyes were like starlight and her hair like night, because "night" and "starlight" rhymed, but he had a feeling the poem wouldn't turn out that well...
writing cliche jace
If I made a joke about just dropping by, would you write me off as cliché?
writing fantasy favourite
I really love fantasy. I have to say it is my favourite genre to read and one of the genres I love the most to write.
book writing successful
Write what you want to read. So many people think they need to write a particular kind of book, or imitate a successful style, in order to be published. I've known people who felt they had to model their book on existing blockbusters, or write in a genre that's supposed to be "hot right now" in order to get agents and publishers interested. But if you're writing in a genre you don't like, or modeling yourself on a book you don't respect, it'll show through. You're your first, most important reader, so write the book that reader really wants to read.
mean home writing
I'm not ritualistic about writing. I try to write as often as possible, which means that I have to be able to write in all kinds of situations, whether it's at home on my couch, out at a cafe, or traveling.
real writing character
The great thing about writing for a younger audience is that they will give it to you straight with their responses. They'll tell you exactly what they liked and didn't like, and when they're enthusiastic, they're unashamedly enthusiastic. They'll talk to you about your characters as if they were real people, which is wonderful.
book reading writing
I love reading epic fantasies and big fat books and so I really wanted to write one. I think you always write what you want to read.
writing home light
I would write light entertainment nonfiction pieces during the day, then come home and work on my fantasy fiction. It was very difficult to get out of the one mindset and into another one.
book writing listening
I like to listen to music that fits with what I'm writing. For each book, I've assembled a playlist, so readers can get a sense of what I was listening to while I was writing.
