... there are a lot of shredders in country music - Redd Volkaert, Brent Mason, Dan Huff .. and guys like that
It comes down to building your own world out here on the road. It's who you surround yourself with. My band and crew are really positive guys.
I love being an enigma. Every time I'm tempted to respond to someone who tries to put me in a box, politically - you know, someone who gets on the Internet and says, you're pro-gun, or you're anti-gun - I stop and say to myself, 'This is great; this is what I wanted. I wanted to be the guy you can't figure out.'
I tended to lean towards the guys who both sang and played, such as Ricky Skaggs, Vince Gill, Steve Wariner... And at the other end of the spectrum, I had Eric Clapton in a rock and blues sense, jazz guys such as Tal Farlow and Les Paul... Then Chet Atkins-type stuff.
With my guys and with the way that we live out there, we work out a lot and try to eat right, but we try to basically keep it our own rhythm and our own world.
I'm excited for people to hear the album. I'm looking forward to them being able to pop it in their car radio and listen to it, ... I'm not even worried about it at this point. I'm done now. I told the people at the label, 'It's up to you guys now. I'm going on vacation.'
I can't help but include some of the lighthearted stuff. I guess that's the way I observe things. My favorite saying is, 'If you're going to laugh about something later, you might as well start now.
I don't know where I get it from. My family has no sense of humor, none. It's a genetic mutation, I guess. I tried drawing naked pictures when I was in the third grade. You'd have seen how funny my mom was then. Or when I took a bat to a car my dad had been buffing all day. He's not funny.
Buck gave birth to a movement. At the time when he came through, his music was so different. He was a maverick in the true sense of the word.
I don't have any interest in doing something that's weak musically.
Some artists would rather go in there and let some other things dictate the kind of record they do, but I've got such a great team.
There are many things I can improve on. I'm challenged every day, and I still want to work hard and earn what I've been afforded.
It surprises a few people, we have a full string orchestral intro on the album. I think this album is what a sequel should be. It goes to a new place.
It's fun to be up for multiple things. It's nice to look at the list this time and it not all be for one song.
