I've suffered many, many ups and downs in my life. And so does everyone. And the thing is to always know, with this down, the only place you can go is up,
We try to spread it around. Our running backs, Jonathan (McCravey) and Cedric Amos, we had a few nice catches and runs. They work hard and they play hard. It's fun coaching them. We tried to take advantage of some things and it worked out for us, and that's due to O.C.
Even being a wideout, he is extremely physical, ... He's always trying to find someone to block. That really caught Carolina's eye because they probably won't use him as a wideout. They will use him to catch and block and use him out of the slot and send him in motion.
Even as a sophomore you could tell he would be a real good football player because he blocked extremely well,
Except for the turnover and a couple of fades, we played great, I thought,
That's the reason you saw Tripp down, ... We made the decision to put Tripp down for this, and we had Ryan (Taylor, who normally plays only receiver) down. Our kids played hard against a real good football team, we felt like. We are real fortunate to have the quality of players we have right now. We are very athletic, and they just do it.
Having players like O.C. and Ryan around, maybe they thought we would throw the ball all over the place, ... Being able to run like we did was a big plus.
I would rather have one I have to gear down than one I have to gear up, ... Ryan is a competitor without a doubt. I think he understands it's his senior year and what we have at stake. He understands the situation. That doesn't mean you can't be competitive and can't get after it, but there's a time to stop and a time to go.
All-around, this is the best quarterback I've had. We're fortunate to have the quality of players we've got.
I thought we executed well and especially the first half,
Last year, he played both wideout and tight end, depending on what we wanted to do. That way we figured we could utilize him and get all the best of him. We will do the same thing this year. It just depends on what we have called.
I saw a brochure at a meeting and thought it was misleading. Some may think we are doing it with the names they are using for the team. It projects something that isn't so.
Our opening drive in the third quarter was a good one, ... We went to the Wishbone and we just drove the ball downfield. Sure, New Bern scored right after that, and that's really no surprise. It's not like we were playing the Sisters of the Poor. They have a great tradition. Our defense is young, but they buckled down after that last New Bern score and that's encouraging.
Somehow they got the momentum, and both teams were playing extremely hard, ... Our kids kept fighting, and their kids kept playing. It was a good football game.
