dark finally life people record worrying
I used to live too much of my life worrying about what other people thought, ... My dark and introspective life was solitary. It was valid, (but now) I finally feel like I have a family. I'm integrated. My friends are really important to me, and they have a lot to do with why this record is so (expletive) cool.
change fade issue marriage next nor perception public settled
I think same-sex marriage is an issue that won't be settled soon, nor will the need to change public perception fade away next year.
bounce wanna wanting
When I was 22, it didn't matter; I could bounce back quicker. There's something in my mind... about not wanting to tarnish that. I don't wanna overstay my welcome.
amount business expect heading involve label maybe music playing punk regular road rock room sit stop stuff towards
Maybe if I get off the road and stop playing with punk rock bands, there'll be a lot more records. It would probably involve me getting out of the conventional music business as we know it and heading more towards a self-sufficient, self-structured release-type thing. I wouldn't expect a regular label to keep up with the amount of stuff that I've got, or the amount of stuff I would have if I could just sit in a room and just write music.
certain gained mess realised
When I'm winning, winning, winning with a certain way why would I mess with that? When I realised there was lot to be gained from failing in some people's eyes, it made it all the more interesting!
american-musician business shaping starts
When the business starts shaping the art, or the delivery of the art, then it's not right.
america american-musician electronic few music north surrounded york
You're surrounded by electronic music in New York. I mean New York is one of the few places in North America where electronic music is the prevalent form.
bearing cover fun gone meant nice reward since spectrum
We really cover the whole spectrum and it's a hoot. It's meant to be a really up, fun show. And it's a nice reward for me personally, since I've never gone back and revisited some of this stuff. And for other people, it's a reward for bearing with me.
definitely somebody song
That song was definitely about somebody going back in the closet,
american-musician artist best people scenario support ways
The best scenario is where people support the artist directly. We're a ways from that yet-if people can get it for free, why would they pay?
song thinking views
It reset and mended my freshly damaged and distorted view of life, and made me recognize that this thing we call music, this primal expression that we reshape and refine and define ourselves with, is the gift I was given. The ability to communicate what others feel but cannot fully express, the passing down and around of songs and stories, from Pete Townshend to Joey Ramone to me, to the audiences who take the time and effort to support our work and give us a way to support ourselves -- I'm thinking this is what I am supposed to be doing.
acoustics young shows
How do I explain Neil Young? Great question! I explain Neil Young as, I would kill to see his acoustic shows.
months dislocation
I don't like the dislocation of being away for months at a time. It's not conducive to having a life.
gay men thinking
I think also there was a lot of coming to terms with where I am in life, where I fit in as a gay man in America, and getting more comfortable with who I am.
