Sanctions on Iraq are not going to be lifted while Iraq continues to violate Security Council,
This resolution is going to be passed tomorrow, ... And we think it sends an unmistakable signal for Iraq to comply immediately. This resolution is moving like a freight train.
The President, in talking about freedom and democracy, is sparking a wave of very positive democratic sentiment that might help us override both Islamic fundamentalism that has formed in that region, and also some of the hatred for our policies of invading Iraq.
This is typically Iraqi behavior. Once again they are repudiating the Security Council resolutions. They are repudiating the agreement they made with the secretary-general, they are blustering, they are going out of their way to be defiant and they are playing games.
This is not an attack against the United States. This is an Iraqi attack against the United Nations and the Security Council.
My view is that the secretary should step aside. Besides the fact that the Iraq war has been mismanaged ... we should listen to what these generals are saying.
Iraq is pushing this issue to the brink and there's going to be some grave consequences.
The coalition has reunited itself because of Iraqi behavior, ... We believe that there's strong unanimity and consensus on the council that Iraq's behavior has been unacceptable.
The Iraqis have imposed unacceptable conditions on the work of the inspectors. They have to have full unfettered access to all sites at all times without interference.
We will use the Strategic Petroleum Reserve if there is a severe energy-supply disruption threatening our nation's security.
What is very important is that the level of increase be a sizable amount and, secondly, that it be done in a timely fashion. That's our objective for that meeting.
