The thing I would encourage you to do is to go where your love is. Go where you heart tells you to go. I think that it's difficult to work in a job that you really don't like, that you really don't enjoy. If you're doing something that you love and is a lot of fun, it's a lot easier to come to work every day.
I think he probably did a tremendous job in acquiring and developing talent in the '70s and '80s, a lot of them from small schools,
I think they're doing a great job all the way across the board. I think there are a lot of positives in the way the team has played. Nick has done a great job after that Cleveland game, whatever he's done in bringing them together. They're playing well.
When you have a football team, everybody has a role on it. And Ro's role, for the most part in the last couple of years, . . . was to get the defense ready. Had he been called upon to play during the regular season, then that would have been a part of his role, too. But, for the most part, it wasn't. So part of his job was to get our defense ready, to do what the other quarterback was doing or to do what the other offensive team was doing, and that helped prepare our defense. In no way can I minimize that.
We're not on a sightseeing tour here. We have a job to do. We all have something that we want to try to accomplish. That's really what we're going there for. Understanding what the setting is and what the stadium is and all of that, yes, we are all aware of that.
need to take advantage of the extra time that we have this week and do a good job trying to solidify everything in all three phases of the game. ... Fundamentally, we have to try to tighten everything up as much as we can.
It?s always good to make those yards when you need them, like in short yardage and goal line situations or like that third quarter (against the Jets) when you're going into the wind. You want to try to control the clock a little bit. Those are important yards, too. I think we can do a better job in running the ball than we did. I hope we can.
They did a better job at everything than we did. Pass protection, throwing the ball, catching it, making the big plays, I am not really sure what happened out there today. Whatever, it wasn't good.
We were trying to spread them out with different personnel groups, ... I thought that was pretty effective. I thought Tom did a good job of managing the game.
I am who I am. In the end, I feel that what I'm accountable for is doing a good job as a football coach.
You get the job done or you don't.
You would have to talk to the Jets. I have no comment on their job or their situation or anything else. Anything they have to say about it, I'm sure they would be more than happy to give you that information.
Dean Pees has done an outstanding job coaching our linebackers. When he joined us, Dean brought a wealth of experience into this system and has been a significant part of our success over the past two seasons.
I thought Tom did a good job managing the game, especially opening night where you know you're going to get a couple of different (defensive) looks. He showed a lot of poise.
